About The Chandler Project

Our Mission

The Chandler Project focuses on the successful re-entry of Exonerated individuals back into society as well as raising awareness of innocent people being wrongfully convicted. The re-entry and awareness models utilize successful former Exonerated people as life coaches and/or speakers to help navigate the system to prevent further victimization.

Edwin Chandler's Story

My mother and godmother instilled good values, morals, and integrity. Life seemed normal, until my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1990 and passed away in March 1993 from complications from her breast cancer.

I had responsibilities. I had a life.

In October 1993 my life changed for the worse. I was arrested, charged, and indicted on first degree robbery and capital murder, crimes that I didn’t commit. In 1995, I was convicted of first degree robbery and second degree manslaughter.

In April 2002, I was released from prison after being wrongfully convicted and subsequently spent the next seven years on parole. Finally, on October 13, 2009, I was exonerated of all charges, a day that coincided with my son's first birthday. Since then, I have founded The Chandler Project and currently serve as Chairman of the Board for Free The Innocent Foundation. As a motivational speaker, I am passionate about raising awareness about wrongful convictions and the importance of social justice. Additionally, I am committed to giving back to my community through regular donations and volunteering efforts across America.
